On Thursday 26th May 2017, a beautiful sunny day, all local Primary Schools took part in a tournament in memory of a wonderful lad Olly Jones.
The teams played 5 games in each category for the senior pupils and the juniors played 10. The pupils had a terrific time and it was a tournament to remember! The etiquette and teamwork was evident on the day and the day closed with a nail biting final with P7 Dunoon Dudes facing Kirn P7. The game began with Kirn scoring first with Aidan Clark running past Dunoon’s defence and placing it past the keeper Grant Thorup. Dunoon returned with an amazing goal scored by Keane McCulloch as the ball was played over the defenders by Peter Jeffrey and Keane was on hand to tap it into the goal. Kirn then scored again with a back heel that deflected off Scott Melville and went past Grant! Then Dunoon fired a goal into the net, Charlie Robertson thus creating an even score. Then with the last minute to play (20 seconds) Dunoon’s Charlie curled the ball round the wall and straight into the top right hand corner.
There was a pitch invasion leading to friendly handshakes on both sides. Dunoon were elated and presented with their trophy at the end. A marvellous tribute to Olly, who was a keen footballer himself and Mr Mitchell hopes to carry this on next year!
